The Band Toto Asia
Toto was expanding its production facilities in the overseas market and was doing business in France, Germany, Indonesia, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and the People's Republic of China. North America was seen as an area of growth for toilets and bidet seats, as opposed its ”base” markets in Japan and China.
Dhaniram Toto documented Toto words to ensure that the future generation could be able to read them. Many words were replaced with foreign words. For instance dui, which was Bengali for verandah, was being used.
Origins
The company was founded in 1917 and its beginnings mirrored Japan's development. In the beginning, Toto made products to meet the growing demand for modern, new urban housing. To accomplish this, it employed the first tunnel kiln in the country to produce ceramics in a continuous flow. It also pioneered the use automation to control production, which allows for greater efficiency and consistency.
In the late 1980s, the company began to expand outwards to benefit from sales and new markets. It launched the Cera Trading Company, importing and marketing other manufacturers' products to complement its own line of sanitary earthenware and plumbing fittings. This strategy helped increase sales and expand the firm’s global market share.
In the 1990s Toto began to concentrate on research and development of water-related appliances. It also improved its distribution system to better serve the needs of its customers and increase profits. The company implemented a just-in-time approach to managing its supply chain, and it used the same approach in its sales strategy. This resulted in a higher level of customer satisfaction.
Toto continued to develop toilet technology. The most recent toilet features an environmentally friendly, powerful tornado flush. The company makes use of recycled water in its manufacturing process and has a green buying policy. Toto also manufactures bathtubs, faucets, and hand dryers with greater energy efficiency than typical models.
The company's first museum opened in the year 2015 It has exhibits on Toto's seminal products and their development as well as its group companies (all having to do with ceramics) as well as the historical background of plumbing and products such as bath units, and in a separate gallery, Toto products sold around the world. The museum also has a bathroom that features a WASHLET toilet and other toilet-related innovations.
Before forming Toto members of the group performed session work for various musicians. Boz Scaggs' album Silk Degrees featured keyboardist David Paich, guitarists Mike Porcaro & Steve Lukather and drummer Jeff Porcaro & Steve Lukather. They also performed on albums by Steely Don, Seals and Crofts and Sonny and Cher.
Discography
You might expect a band with a name such as Asia to be a prog rock band, but it is actually a fairly straight forward rock group. The group began as a quartet and released two albums - 1979's self-titled debut album, and 1980's Armed to the Teeth. The group has a diverse musical background, but their greatest success was in 1982 with Toto IV.
The album was a huge blockbuster, but not without difficulties. Record companies put the band on spot with the ultimatum ”give us an album that's a smash or we'll drop you” and the pressure was on them to give it. Toto was able achieve this through the aid of the smash hit ”Africa.”
Toto's musical mastery is a result of their previous experiences. Before joining the group, members worked as session musicians for artists like Boz Scaggs. Steely Dan and Seals and Crofts. Their sonic trademark has become the standard for the '80s, and has influenced many contemporary artists.
The album begins hard with songs like Running Out of Time or Unknown Soldier that show the band's ability to write great AOR tunes that slowly get into your head. The album also features slow, jazzier tracks like The Little Things and Chinatown. The album concludes with Great Expectations, a song that combines folk with distortion AOR and sounds like a complete flop, but works amazingly well.
After Toto IV, the band's fortunes took a turn to the downside. David Hungate left the band to pursue a solo career, and the band had several drummers. In 1984, Bobby Kimball left the band after drug charges. The band continued to play with Michael Porcaro, Steve Lukather and Michael Porcaro.
Toto released Isolation despite the turbulence. It wasn't as popular as IV. The band was able to release an album that was chart-topping, Kingdom of Desire, in 1992. The album marked the end of the original Toto lineup and was the first album to feature the new singer, Simon Phillips.

Line-up
The album's third, Turn Back, marked a return to the classic sextet format of previous albums. It was a more powerful, consistent effort that had a harder edge than Hydra. Its edgier sound was indicative of the maturation of group, with drummer Bobby Kimball's improved ability on the drums and a more mature, confident vocal delivery by singer Joseph Williams. David Paich's keyboard playing was as well more refined, more precise, and less derivative on previous recordings.
After touring to promote the album, the band recorded a live show in Amsterdam which was released as a two-CD set titled Falling In Between Live on Eagle Records. A new studio album was released shortly after, and the group embarked on a world-wide tour to promote the album. During this time, keyboardist Greg Phillinganes filled in for Paich, and bassist David Hungate left the group to spend more time with his family.

It was completed in 2001 as a duo album called Then and Now. It was the first album in the band's history not to feature one single track with the word ”A” in its title. It also included one previously unreleased track, ”Kari-Anne”.
By 2003, Toto had begun to decline in popularity. The group's fourth album, Old Is New was not a commercial success and vocalist Williams was suffering from laryngitis that limited his singing ability. Hungate also returned to Nashville and Leland Sklar's drumming was replaced by Shem Von Schroeck.
Downes and the other original members of Asia - Wetton, Palmer, and Howe–convened a meeting in England in the early part of 2006 to discuss the possibility of officially reforming the band. The lineup, which was minus Howe (who was working with Yes at the time) was eventually referred to as Toto XIV and toured extensively.
In 2010, the band reunited for another reunion tour with a slightly different line-up, including guitarists Mike Porcaro and 먹튀검증 커뮤니티 Steve Lukather, drummer John Pierce, bassist Shannon Forrest, and multi-instrumentalists Warren Ham and Dominique Taplin. The band featured a special appearance by singer Michael McDonald and a backing vocalist named Mabvuto Carver.
