Mesothelioma and Asbestos
Asbestos is a natural mineral that is found in long, thin fibres. People who are exposed to asbestos on a regular basis are at risk of developing mesothelioma or other lung diseases of different types.
The symptoms of these diseases may not manifest for years after exposure to asbestos. Different types of asbestos can cause different symptoms.
Pleural Mesothelioma
Pleural mesothelioma is a cancer that occurs in the lung's outer the lining (pleura). It is the most frequent form of mesothelioma and accounts for 70% to 79% all diagnosed cases. This condition causes chest discomfort, shortness of breath and a feeling of heavyness.

Diagnosis
