WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boost to specific stats. Each upgrade increases item level by 3. Each upgrade also increases a random substat.

These types of gear get less value from upgrading due to the need to roll to get a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by transferring the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of weapon or armor. However, the item upgrading used to upgrade will remain in use for a long time and will not be able to be used again. Upgrades can be used to create Enchantments.

The upgrader can be found in every major city, and can be accessed at any time to upgrade your equipment. To keep your gear current, it is recommended that you visit the upgrader each several weeks.

Upgrades will cost more depending on the item level, however, they are always less expensive than purchasing new gear. For example upgrading a Benthic chest to 385 ilvl will cost 20 recycle points purchasing a similar piece from another player will costs 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are functional items that can be used to upgrade item weapons and tools, armor and other items. They can be bought by players through NPCs that sell upgrades to items in exchange for different currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade has been purchased it can be used on any weapon, tool, or armor with the help of The button will display the item upgrading's next upgrade level, when there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrading varies based on the slot for the item and the current level of the item. For example weapons cost more than bracers, or gloves. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones and a few crests, with some upgrades offering discounts to lower the cost of Flightstones or the crests used. After an item has been upgraded to a certain amount it can be re-downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower cost.

Upgraders for items are available at many locations including the main island and some outposts. The NPCs offer an upgrade coupon and a possibility of getting an entirely new recipe. The discount for upgrades increases according to the number of items being upgraded. It is also possible to be boosted by having players complete some specific achievements or complete quests.

Contrary to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II is no item upgrader available in the beginning of Icewind Dale. Instead, the NPCs that are available to facilitate upgrades require a variety of means which is both an improvement as well as a disadvantage.

In Season 3, a number of new features have been added to the upgrade system. Once an upgrade has been completed to a certain level of item for an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same level will cost less. This applies regardless of whether the items are from a different set of equipment.

Using these new currencies isn't too complicated, but the system will introduce a few changes to the overall upgrade process. For example, once an Item Level Upgrade is at the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic), it won't require Flightstones to be upgraded. This is to allow players to get their gear up to the highest ilvl possible on all their characters rather than relying solely on seasonal loot.

Another notable change is that crests have one purpose, so it's important to use them properly. For instance, it's best to use all of your Whelpling-rank crests on the best equipment available, and then keep Drake and Wyrm crests for the next batch of upgrades you're planning to create. This is particularly true for items like trinkets and rings that occupy multiple slots on the character which will only be able to benefit from the discount for all accounts when all slots are filled with top-quality gear.
