WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader
Upgrades give you boost in specific stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of the item by +3. A random additional substat is also increased with every upgrade items.
Upgraded gear is generally more useful, unless the Item level Upgrade has low requirements by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a high variance in stats (like eth Titan weapons). These types of gear get less value from upgrading due to the necessity to roll for a perfect version.
Recycle Points
The item upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by transferring the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of weapon or armor. However, the item that is used for the upgrade will be consumed for the duration of time and will not be able to be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create enhancements.

The cost of upgrades will depend on the current item level of the item being upgraded, but will always be less expensive than purchasing new equipment from other sources. For instance upgrading a Benthic chest piece to ilvl 385 will cost 20 recycle points, while buying a similar item from another player will costs 105.

They can be bought by players from NPCs who sell upgrades for items in exchange for a variety of currencies, and can be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade has been purchased, it can be used on any weapon or tool using an The button will show a preview of an item upgrades's next upgrade level, in the event that there are enough materials.
Upgrade costs differ based on the slot for the item and the current level of the item. For example weapons cost more than bracers, or gloves. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones plus a specific number of crests. Some upgrades give discounts on Flightstones. Once an item is upgraded to a certain amount it is able to be degraded and returned to the upgrader for a lesser amount of the two currency types.
Upgraders for items are available at many locations including the main island as well as some outposts. The NPCs provide an upgrade discount and a chance to obtain a new upgrade recipe. The upgrade discount increases when more items are upgraded. It can be increased by having players complete certain achievements or complete quests.
Icewind Dale does not have an upgrader for items at the beginning, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. Instead, the NPCs that are available to help with upgrades require a variety of means that are both an improvement but also a drawback.
In Season 3, the upgrade system has been altered a bit, with several new features added. After a player has upgraded to a certain level of item for an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same item level upgrade level, will cost less. This is true regardless of whether the items come from another set of equipment.
The discount is available to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests required for upgrades is also cut and is not available until players achieve certain milestones in their achievement.
Crests
When upgrading equipment in WoW, players have a variety of options. Flightstones are a currency that is available to everyone who wants to upgrade. Crests are more specific, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are the main component of the Dragonflight gear progression system introduced in 10.1, and come in 4 ranks.
The first thing to note is that crests are only able to be used on equipment that is of a particular rank, and that every rank has different requirements for its upgrade path. The simplest and simplest upgrade process costs just 15 crests while the most complex may require as many as 20 crests depending on the type of equipment that is being upgraded.
Players can earn crests through completing content at the appropriate level. This could be by doing outdoor activities or taking on dungeons and raids of all difficulties to get lower-level gear or Mythic+ raid bosses or dungeons that have a high difficulty to obtain endgame gear. The crests can then be exchanged with an item upgrader like Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken for the appropriate upgrade steps and paths.
Using these new currencies isn't too complicated however, the system will introduce a few changes to the overall upgrade process. For instance, once a piece of equipment reaches the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it will no longer require Flightstones to be upgraded. This change allows players to upgrade their gear to the highest possible level on all of their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.
It's also crucial to choose crests wisely, as they only have one use. It's best to put your Whelpling-rank Crests on the highest-quality gear that you can find and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next round of upgrades. This is particularly true for items like trinkets and rings that occupy multiple slots on the character which can only be eligible to benefit from the account-wide discount when all slots are full of high-quality equipment.
