WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader
Upgrades can give you an increase in specific stats. Each upgrade increases the level of an item level upgrade, linked webpage, by 3. Each upgrade also increases the random substatus.
Upgraded gear is generally more useful, unless the item has a low requirement by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a high variance in stats (like the eth Titan weapons). These types of gear get less value from upgrading due to the requirement to roll for a perfect model.
Recycle Points
The item upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by offering the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be made on any type of weapon or armor. However, the item upgrade that is used to upgrade will remain in use for a long time and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be applied to enchantments.
The upgrader is located in all major cities and is accessible at any time to upgrade your gear. To keep your gear current, it is recommended that you visit the upgrader every several weeks.
The cost of upgrading will depend on the current level of the equipment being upgraded but they will always be less expensive than purchasing new equipment from other sources. For example, upgrading a Benthic chest piece to 385 levels will cost 20 recycle points while purchasing the same item from a different player will cost 105.
Valorstones
Upgrades are functional items which can be used to level up weapons, tools, armor, and accessories. They can be purchased by players from NPCs that sell upgrades to items in exchange for various currencies, and can be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be used on any weapon, tool or armor. button, which will display an item's preview at its next upgrade level when the player has enough materials.
The upgrade cost depends on the item slot and the current item level and the weapon's price is higher than gloves or bracers, for instance. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones and a few crests, with some upgrades offering discounts to lower the cost of the Flightstones or crests that are used. Once an item level upgrade has been upgraded to a certain level it is able to be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower price.
Upgraders for items are available in a variety of locations, including the main island and some outposts. The NPCs offer an upgrade coupon as well as the chance to obtain an entirely new recipe. The discount for upgrading increases as more items are upgraded. It can be increased if players finish certain achievements or quests.
In contrast to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II there is no upgrader for items available at the start of Icewind Dale. Instead the NPCs that can be used to upgrade must be acquired through several methods, which is both an improvement but also a drawback.
In Season 3, several new features were added to the upgrade system. Once an upgrade has been completed to a certain item level for an armor slot upgrading other items to the same item level will cost less. This applies even if those items come from a different set of gear.
The discount is applicable to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed to upgrade is also reduced and is not available until players reach certain achievement milestones.
Crests
When it comes to upgrading gear in WoW players have a variety of choices. Flightstones are an item that is available to all players for upgrading. Crests are more specialized, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are an integral element of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System, which was introduced in version 10.1. They are available in four ranks.
The first thing to remember is that crests are only able to be used on equipment that is of a particular rank, and every rank has different requirements for upgrading. The simplest and most straightforward upgrade path costs 15 crests, while the more complex one requires as many as 20 crests depending on the kind of gear being upgraded.
Players can earn crests through completing content of the appropriate level, which involves walking around and engaging in outdoor activities for lower-tier gear, raids or dungeons with all difficulties for higher-tier items or Mythic+ dungeons or heroic raid bosses for gear that is used in the endgame. Crests can be exchanged at an upgrader NPC like Cuzolth in Dornogal or Vaskarn in Valdrakken, for the appropriate upgrade routes and steps.

For example, once an item reaches the highest upgrade level of any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it won't require Flightstones to be upgraded. This is to allow players to upgrade their equipment to the highest level possible for all their characters instead of relying only on seasonal loot.
Another important modification is that crests have one use and it's crucial to use them properly. It's best to use your Whelpling-rank crests on the best gear you can find and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests to be used for the next set of upgrades. This is particularly relevant for items like rings and trinkets that occupy several slots. The discount for the entire account will only be applicable if all the slots on the character are filled with top-quality equipment.
