Upgraded gear is generally more valuable, unless it has low requirements by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a high variance in stats (like the eth Titan weapons). These types of gear get less value from upgrading due to the need to roll for a perfect version.
Recycle Points
The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by offering the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of armor or weapon. However, the item used to upgrade will be consumed forever and will not be able to be used again. Upgrades can be applied to the enchantments.
The upgrader can be found in all major cities and can be accessed anytime to upgrade your gear. To keep your gear up-to-date, it is recommended that you visit the upgrader every couple of weeks.
Upgrades will cost more depending on the level of the item, however, they are always cheaper than buying new equipment. Upgrades such as upgrading a Benthic chest to 385 ilvl will cost you 20 recycle points. If you purchase a similar item level upgrade (bitsdujour.com), it will cost you 105.
Valorstones
Upgrades are functional items that are used to improve the quality of weapons and tools, armor and accessories. Players can purchase them through NPCs who sell upgrades to item owners for a variety of currencies. They are also available on random treasure lists. Once an upgrade is purchased, it can be applied to any weapon, tool, or armor using an button, which displays a preview of the item at the next upgrade level in the event that the player has enough materials.
The cost of upgrading is based on the slot of the item upgrades and current Best item upgrader level and the weapon's price is higher than gloves or bracers, for example. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones plus a set number of crests. Some upgrades give discounts on Flightstones. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain amount and is degraded, it can be sold and sold back to the upgrader for a lesser amount of both currency types.
Item upgraders can be found in many places including the main island and some outposts. The NPCs provide an upgrade discount and the chance to obtain a new upgrade recipe. The discount on upgrades increases according to the number of items being upgraded, and can be increased by having players complete specific achievements or quests.
In contrast to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II there is no upgrader for items available in the beginning of Icewind Dale. Instead the NPCs that are available to facilitate upgrades require various methods which is both an improvement but also a drawback.
In Season 3 the upgrade system was modified a bit, and several new features added. Once an upgrade has been completed to a certain level of item for an armor slot upgrading other items to the same level will cost less. This is even if the items are from a different set of gear.
The amount of Valorstones needed to upgrade is reduced and the discount is affixed to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests required for upgrades is also cut and is not available until players have reached certain milestones in their achievement.
Crests
When upgrading equipment in WoW players have a few options. Flightstones are a currency that is available to all players for upgrading. Crests are more special and are utilized during specific item level upgrades. Crests are a crucial component of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System introduced in version 10.1. They come in four ranks.
The first thing to remember is that crests are only available for equipment that is with a certain rank. Each rank comes with a different upgrade path. The simplest and simplest upgrade route costs 15 crests while the more complex one may require as many as 20 crests, based on the type of equipment being upgraded.
Players can earn crests by finishing content at the appropriate level, whether that means walking around and doing outdoor activities for gear of lower tiers, dungeons or raids of all difficulty for items of higher tier, or Mythic+ dungeons or heroic raid bosses to obtain endgame gear. These crests can be exchanged with an item upgrader, such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to upgrade the item in the proper steps and paths.
The new currency system isn't too difficult to use, however it will bring some changes to the process of upgrading. Once a piece of gear attains the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer), it will no longer require Flightstones. This is to allow players to get their equipment to the highest level possible on all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.
Another important change is that crests have one usage therefore it's essential to make use of them in a responsible manner. For instance, it's a good idea make use of all your Whelpling-rank crests on the top equipment you have, and then save Drake and Wyrm crests for the next batch of upgrades you plan to make. This is particularly true for items such as rings and trinkets that occupy several slots. The discount for the entire account will only be applicable if all slots on the character are filled with top-quality gear.
