Toto expanded its production facilities overseas, and was doing business in France and Germany, Indonesia, Korea and Taiwan, Thailand and the People's Republic of China. With a name as evocative as Asia you'd expect the group to be prog queens and kings - but it's actually a pretty straight forward rock band. The band started out as a quartet, and they released two albums - 1979's self titled debut and 1980's Armed to the Teeth. The group has a wide musical background, but their biggest success came in 1982 with Toto IV.

Line-up

Turn Back, the band's third studio album, was a return to a classic sextet format, and an even more consistent and powerful album with a sharper edge. Its more punk-rock sound was indicative of the maturation of group and included drummer Bobby Kimball's greater proficiency on the drums, as well as an improved, mature vocal delivery from singer Joseph Williams. Keyboardist David Paich's work was sharper, more intricate and less cloying than earlier performances.

After touring to promote the album, the band recorded a live concert in Amsterdam that was released as a set of two CDs titled Falling In Between Live on Eagle Records. The group released their new studio album a few months after and embarked on a tour around the world to help promote it. During this time, keyboardist Greg Phillinganes filled in for Paich and bassist David Hungate left the group to spend more time with his family.

The album was released in 2001 and released as a double album titled Then and Now. In 2010, the band reunited for another reunion tour with a slightly different line-up, including guitarists Mike Porcaro and Steve Lukather, drummer John Pierce, bassist Shannon Forrest, and multi-instrumentalists Warren Ham and Dominique Taplin. The band also featured a guest appearance by singer Michael McDonald, and a backing singer named Mabvuto Carpenter.
