Origins
Established in 1917, Toto's beginnings mirrored Japan's growth. In the early years of its existence, the company manufactured goods to meet demand for modern and contemporary urban housing. It was the first tunnel kilns in the country to produce ceramics continuously. It also pioneered the use of automation to control production, allowing for greater efficiency and consistency.

The company created the Cera Trading Company to import and sell other products from other manufacturers to enhance its own line of sanitary earthenwares and plumbing fittings. This strategy helped increase sales and expand the company's market share in the world.
By the 1990s, Toto had shifted its focus on research and development for water-related household appliances. It also improved its distribution system to better serve the needs of its customers and boost profits. The company used the same just-in-time approach to its supply chain management as well as sales program. This resulted in a higher degree of customer satisfaction.
Toto continued to develop toilet technology. Its latest toilet, for instance, has a powerful tornado flush that is more environmentally friendly than traditional toilets. Toto also makes use of recycled water in its manufacturing process and has a green purchasing policy. Toto also manufactures faucets, bathtubs and hand dryers that have higher energy efficiency than typical models.
The first Toto museum opened in 2015. It hosts exhibits on the most iconic products of Toto, their evolution, the group companies (all of which are ceramics), the history of plumbing and products such as bath units. In an additional gallery, you can see Toto products that are sold throughout. The museum even has a bathroom that features a WASHLET toilet and other toilet-related innovations.

They also performed on albums by Steely Dan, Seals and Crofts, and Sonny and Cher.
Discography
With a name as evocative as Asia you'd expect the group to be prog kings and queens - but it's actually a fairly straightforward rock group. The group started out as a quartet, and they recorded two albums: 1979's self titled debut and 1980's Armed to the Teeth. However, even though the group have a variety of musical backgrounds their biggest hit came in 1982 with Toto IV.
The album was a major blockbuster but not without its issues. Record companies put the band on the position with the order ”give us an album that is a success or we'll take you off the market” and the pressure was on them to give it. Toto was able to achieve this through the aid of the smash hit ”Africa.”
Toto's musical mastery is a result of their previous experience. Before joining the group, the members worked as session musicians for artists like Boz Scaggs. Steely Dan and Seals and Crofts. Their sonic signature has become the norm for pop music from the 1980s, and has influenced many contemporary artists.
The album begins hard with tracks like Running Out of Time or Unknown Soldier that show the band's ability to write great AOR tunes that slowly creep into your head. However, the album also includes some slower, more jazzy tracks, like The Little Things and Chinatown. And the album ends with Great Expectations, a song that mixes folk with distorted AOR and sounds like a complete flop, but works wonderfully well.
After Toto IV, the band's fortunes took a turn to the downside. David Hungate left the band to pursue a solo career, and the band had a variety of drummers. In 1984, Bobby Kimball was fired from the band in the after he was charged with drug abuse. the band continued as a trio with Michael Porcaro and 메이저사이트 Steve Lukather.
Despite the turmoil, Toto forged ahead and released Isolation, which was not as successful as IV. The band was able to release a chart-topping album, Kingdom of Desire, in 1992. This album marked Toto's final lineup and the debut of Simon Phillips, a new singer.

Line-up
Turn Back, the band's third studio album it was a return to a classic sextet structure, and it was a more consistent, more powerful album with a sharper edge. The more edgy sound of the album reflected the maturation of the group and featured drummer Bobby Kimball's improved proficiency on the drums, as well as a more mature, confident vocal delivery by singer Joseph Williams. Keyboardist David Paich's work was more precise, sharper and less cloying than on previous recordings.
After touring to promote their album, the group recorded their Amsterdam live show that was released by Eagle Records as a 2-CD set titled Falling In Between. A new studio album followed shortly after, and the band embarked on an extensive world tour to promote it. During this period keyboardist Greg Phillinganes replaced Paich and bassist David Hungate quit the group to spend time with his family.
In 1998, Paich and Lukather started searching through old demos and tapes in search of a new album featuring songs that were never recorded before. It was completed in 2001 as a double album called Then and Now. It was the band's first album that did not contain one single track titled ”A”. The album also contained a previously unreleased track titled ”Kari-Anne”.
By 2003, Toto had begun to decline in popularity. The group's fourth record, Old Is New was an uncommercial success and vocalist Williams was suffering from laryngitis, which restricted his singing capabilities. Hungate also returned to Nashville and Leland Sklar's drumming was replaced by Shem Von Schroeck.
Downes, Wetton Palmer and Howe, the original members of Asia were in England in the beginning of 2006 to discuss the possibility that the band could be reformed. This lineup, minus Howe (who was a member of Yes at the time), eventually became known as Toto XIV and toured extensively.
In 2010, the band reunited for another reunion tour with a slightly different line-up, including guitarists Mike Porcaro and Steve Lukather, drummer John Pierce, bassist Shannon Forrest, and multi-instrumentalists Warren Ham and Dominique Taplin. The band also had a special guest appearance from singer Michael McDonald and a backing vocalist named Mabvuto Carver.
